DOES YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE INCLUDE OCEANS, RIVERS, AND STREAMS? NOAA works to protect the oceans and sea life. The looming problem of water pollution is so large that NOAA cannot manage this task alone. NOAA or The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration monitors the conditions of the oceans and atmosphere.
NOAA
is a role model for the best protection available for our oceans.
Raising awareness is key to successfully managing this key issue for
future generations. Florida offices include St. Petersburg, Port Orange,
and Miami. Film and TV are great channels to attract attention to
protecting the ocean. The Blue Ocean Film Festival group pulls support from NOAA and Europe to focus attention on the importance of saving ocean life prior to extinction. Producers and filmmakers are engaged in promoting films which highlight the local beach attach by the BP Oil spill and its clean up. Its films are often amazing insights into the huge problems created for marine life by pollution.
Protecting
the water quality and wildlife is a long-term goal which rewards
society by increasing the quality of life for tourists, locals, and
wildlife.
Protecting the ocean is problematic due to the many international parties controlling interconnected bodies of water. India and Asia may have a different set of goals for the oceans than the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The cultural differences create demands for marine products, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Protection of marine life is culturally very different around the globe, due to the reliance by many countries’ economies on the products harvested from the ocean.
World
oceans are under attack from plastic. Plastic bottle tops, plastic
grocery store bags, plastic coke bottles, plastic 6-pack ring holders,
and many other dangerous forms of plastic. Medical wastes disposed into
the oceans, along with raw sewage reduce water quality and lower the
life span of marine life.
Progress starts with cleaning up the mess and preventing
destructive ocean practices. The ocean’s failing water quality is increased levels of CO2 attacking the coral reefs and acidifying the water. Global climate changes driven by increasing CO2 impact air and water. As
ocean floor habitat fails, marine life lacks food and protection. One
reason that acidity levels continue to increase is the nuclear waste
entering the ocean as coastal nuclear facilities are hit by typhoons and
hurricanes.
Our turtles, dolphins, penguins, whales, and sharks are ingesting the shredded plastic as food.
It is an indigestible product which eventually results in their
premature death. This impacts the food chain and impacts available food
harvested from the ocean for human consumption. The amount of seafood
available for professional fishing is reduced.
Governor Rick Scott is the watchdog for the state of Florida
for plastic and oil pollution. These toxins shorten animal and marine
life. This endangers the beaches and water quality which impacts
Florida’s huge tourism industry. Tourist income depends on beautiful beaches and a crystal blue ocean. Annual
visitors enjoy America's best beaches in
Clearwater and Saint Petersburg. Protection of Florida’s ocean and
beaches is required to sustain the return travel by annual guests.
